How to Offer Salah or Namaz For Women?

Before we learn how to perform Salah or Namaz for women according to the teachings of Sunnah and Islam. First discuss the importance of Salah for women, age to perform Salah for girls, Salah clothes for women and preconditions for Salah.

Importance of Salah for Women

Being the second pillar of Islam, Salah is the act of worship of Allah (SWT). It is obligatory on every Muslim, irrespective of the gender. Ladies also need to offer Salah five times a day. Salah helps women to connect with Allah Almighty (SWT). It is a way to seek blessings, guidance, forgiveness and peace.

Qur’an Verse on Importance of Salah

Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Qur’an:

“Indeed, performing prayers is a duty on the believers at the appointed times.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:103)

This verse of Surah An-Nisa (The Women) shows that Salah is obligatory for all believers, including women, and must be performed at its fixed times.

Hadith on Salah for Women

The Prophet Muhammad ? said:

“When a woman prays her five daily prayers, fasts her month (Ramadan), guards her chastity, and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise from whichever gate you wish.”
(Musnad Ahmad 1661)

This hadith highlights that performing Salah is one of the most important duties for a woman and leads to Paradise.

At What Age Should a Girl Start Praying Salah?

A Muslim girl becomes obligated to perform Salah when she reaches puberty (at the age of 9 to 15). Parents are encouraged to teach their daughters how to pray from around seven years. This can help them to understand the importance of Salah and it makes it easier for them to pray Salah five times a day regularly when it becomes obligatory.

Salah Clothes for Women

Women should wear modest and loose-fitting clothes while offering Salah. The dressing must cover the entire body except for the face and hands. The clothes should not be see-through and must be clean and pure, as Salah requires both physical and spiritual cleanliness.

Let’s learn what are the preconditions of Salah (prayer) for women.

Preconditions of Salah (Prayer) for Women

  1. Cleanliness from impurities (on the body, clothes and place of prayer).
  2. Performing Ablution (Wudu).
  3. Facing the right direction of Qiblah.
  4. Covering the private parts (All of a woman is considered to be a private part except the face and palms)
  5. Praying at the proper time.
